LeapFrog Solutions Launches New Web Site for American Cancer Society Reston Relay For Life
January 9, 2001, Fairfax, VA -- LeapFrog Solutions announces the launch of www.restonrelay.org, the first-ever Web site for the American Cancer Society Reston Relay For Life. LeapFrog designed and developed the site, and is also hosting and maintaining the site as part of its in-kind corporate sponsorship of the Reston Relay For Life. The site will be the primary source for information about the May 19-20, 2001 event at South Lakes High School.
LeapFrog Solutions was introduced to Reston Relay For Life at an AM Business Connections event at the Great Reston Chamber of Commerce in September of last year. During the networking portion of the program, Shari True, an American Cancer Society spokesperson for the Relay For Life made a compelling pitch for the Reston Relay and mentioned their dream of having a web site to facilitate communication among the planners and participants. "Shari's enthusiasm and commitment were positively contagious," states Maryann Carr, LeapFrog's Project Manager. "I couldn't wait to return to the office to share the story with Lisa Martin, our President and CEO, and to see if I could convince her that LeapFrog needed to get involved. It didn't take any arm-twisting and we eagerly jumped right in," says Carr. "We will also be sending a LeapFrog team to the Reston Relay at South Lakes High School."
The Reston Relay For Life, in its fifth year, has grown steadily and last year raised more than $300,000 for American Cancer Society programs including research, education and patient services. The Reston event is the largest of its kind in the National Capital Region and could involve as many as 200 teams.
Ron Sherman and Barbara Haight, Co-Chairmen of the event, recognized the challenges that arise as the event gains support and popularity in the community. It becomes increasingly difficult to keep people informed of important developments, meetings, and various application deadlines.
"Now more than ever, it is critical we have some way to reach potential participants, sponsors, and new and returning team captains. The most efficient means is, of course, the Internet, but Web sites cost dollars that the budget for this event could not absorb," says Sherman. "We were very fortunate to have a good corporate citizen, LeapFrog Solutions, step up to design and develop the Web site as an in-kind contribution to the Reston Relay For Life."
